The AJC is at it Again: Residents Complain About AJC Reach Littering Atlanta

by Stop-AJC-Reach on January 20, 2011

Like a bad zombie movie, the AJC is back at it again.

CBS Atlanta Reports:

“It’s the same thing we saw all last spring and summer, plastic bags filled with ads thrown onto driveways, many ending up in the street.”

Video: Is The AJC Breaking The City’s Litter Law? (CBS Atlanta)

And more in this summary from a blogger who’s mad as heck and not going to take it. “See, I told you the AJC Sucked!” (by the creatively named “The Atlanta Journal Constitution Sucks”

We’ll have more on this issue tomorrow, with an article about how to stop AJC Reach in your entire neighborhood.

After Bob Eickhoff was fired, I thought this would be the end of this failed chapter he started. More of the same I guess…..

The ‘good news’ is that their circulation continues to drop. The Circulation Bureau reports as of 9/2010, it was down 14% from a year ago and now the M-F paid circulation averages only 181,504 daily. I have said several times that probably the only black ink on their balance sheet is from these toss away papers. Most likely these 2 advertising sections are the only thing keeping them afloat and that is why they are so pig headed about refusing to stop strewing them all over Metro Atlanta. The firms that advertise in them seem to be getting screwed, they pay for the ads based on phony circulation figures of 1.7 million going out each week, but strip malls continue to find hundreds of them in the trash behind their stores, clearly it is easier for these minimum wage drivers to take a load to a dumpster than ride around and throw them with gas at $3 a gallon. http://www.atlantajournal-constitution.blogspot.com/

The Kennesaw/Acworth AJC problems got a bit of publicity with the internet publication ‘The Patch’ (http://kennesaw.patch.com) reporting at legnth on the problem. You can see the article directly at: http://kennesaw.patch.com/articles/kennesaw-retiree-battles-unsolicited-mail, all publicity in this matter is good publicity, perhaps the AJC will eventually decide that the public isn’t impressed with their ‘head in the sand’ approach to the matter.

It is far past time for them to do the responsible thing and go back to distributing the flyers by mail.
