It would be a good idea to start a petition on this site. It would add credibility by showing the actual number of folks unhappy with the current situation.
Paige, thanks for your support, and great idea! We’ll look for some software today to add to the site for that. In the meantime, please help spread the word about this site and the facebook group.
(By the way, the facebook group has 296 members as of this comment… there is a lot of interest in getting the AJC to stop littering our neighborhoods with these advertising circulars.)
We’ve been hit here in Milton by the AJC Reach and have been trying, unsuccessfully I might add, for 3 months to cease delivery to a private community!
Here in Kennesaw the AJC’s “Evening Edge” comes out on Thursdays (today so far it isn’t in the driveway) and on Monday the ‘AJC Reach’ shows up. This Monday ‘Reach’ only started a few months ago, before that it was only the Thursday Edge.
Both are just advertising sections of their paper, there is NO news value to the toss aways. Kennesaw is revising their Trash regs and this litter issue will be addressed in this April legislation.
I have my own blogs at: http://atlantajournalconstitutionsucks.blogspot.com
AJC has created jobs by contracting an outside source to deliver their product.
@JusJova Thanks for stopping by and for your comment. I understand your point of view and we’re all for creating jobs. Having said that, the prostitution business in Nevada creates jobs, too, but that doesn’t mean we want that business in our neighborhoods; any more than we want litter in our neighborhoods. The end doesn’t justify the means. We insist that this littering of our neighborhoods stop.
I’m not sure comparing Reach delivery to prostitution is quite fair
and I do take JusJova’s point. However, I for one thought long and hard before I got involved in this fight. But after seeing the amount of chatter since December on the two dozen neighborhood listservs I’m on, it felt like someone had to pull all those conversations together and direct that frustration toward getting something done about the problem, rather than revisiting it every other week. And the AJC hasn’t helped. People have asked to be removed tons of times and either haven’t OR are removed and then the packets are littering the driveways the next week. The AJC can’t even ensure that their subscribers are omitted from the driveway drops; we aren’t supposed to get them because they come in our Sunday papers.
It’s a lose-lose situation all the way around.
