Please stop delivering this paper, it is unwanted, unread, and all it does is litter our neighborhood!

Please help in reducing the liter in our communities by haulting unsolicitated advertisements and offers. I read AJC.com daily, but have no need for hard copies of your paper. Thanks for listening!

Natalie Hudson May 20, 2010 at 12:03 am

These packages litter our streets and look horrible. None of the information is usable.

Please stop wasting your money and time.

Gary DeLaney May 20, 2010 at 12:04 am

Please stop dropping flyers/papers/soliciations in my driveway. I just throw them away.

Margot Wolski May 20, 2010 at 12:05 am

You are creating a litter situation in our county – Forsyth- and it must stop. We will boycott all of your “Reach” advertisers and begin contacting them directly and advise them they are also being held liable for contnuing this unlawful practice. No Soliciting in our community means NO REACH FLIERS!

Elden Morris May 20, 2010 at 12:06 am

I met with Cathey Pickett, Cobb County Code Enforcement Officer. She explained that by throwing the Reach, it is a handbill under Cobb County Code and as such is considered LITTER.

Therefore, the AJC can and has been cited for littering.

I was also able to catch the delivery person for my neighborhood. After talking with him and explaining my problem, he checked his list for “Do Not Deliver” and my address was not on it. He promised that he would not deliver to my drive again.

Good luck everyone.

These ads left in our neighborhood weekly end up littering our streets, in our pond, and left on the street not in driveways and at empty homes. They are not being read, it’s a shame and disgust that we already get them in our mail but also as litter. Stop this please only a few people pick them up weekly as trash and dump them. Kentmere has a no soliciting policy posted at our main entrance

Laurie Stone May 20, 2010 at 12:38 pm

“Custoemr Service” line for AJC Reach no longer works! Could it be they have given up? Or maybe they didn’t pay their phone bill? I tried calling because they keep dumping thoer litter roughly around my house despite numerous calls to halt this and a conversation with Amy.

Laurie Stone May 20, 2010 at 1:59 pm

Wall of Shame not to metion Friends should be updated. Add Total Wine, Pro Carpet Cleaning to Wall of Shame.

Joe Bentley May 20, 2010 at 8:28 pm

I had an exchange with Amy from AJC Reach via the StopAJC Reach Facebook page.

Amy From AJC Reach wrote: Mr. Bentley, we are working with our delivery vendor as well as the city of Atlanta and other municipalities to identify vacant homes. If you want to e-mail me (amy_reach@ajc.com) the addresses of the vacant homes in your neighborhood, I’d be happy to add them to our list and discontinue delivery.
thanks,
Amy

Joe Bentley Responded: Unfortunately, Amy, that plan does nothing to address the biggest problems: … See More

1. Your company is trashing our neighborhoods on a weekly basis, and we already have to volunteer our time to clean up your mess. I simply will not take more time out of my life to compile a list of vacant homes for you. Honestly, while I realize that you’re just doing your job, for you to even consider that a solution is enraging.

2. Vacant homes are the less critical issue. What is more important is that the AJC Reach is signaling, to each and every criminal in the area, which homes are easy targets. Many of those homes are not vacant…they are occupied by elderly people who can’t get out and clean up your mess in a timely matter. Your company is endangering the safety of our elderly residents, and no list of vacant homes is going to remedy that.

3. I, myself, have called 6 times over the past 3 months to have this nonsense stopped. With each call, I’ve been assured that it’s been “escalated” and a supervisor promises me that the AJC Reach will stop littering my property. And, each and every Sunday morning, another piece of your trash is in my driveway…and all over my street…and in my neighborhood storm drains…and in the creek that runs through the neighborhood. I cannot tell you how angry our whole community is.

The only solution is for your company to stop breaking the law and stay out of our neighborhood!! Why can’t you just mail them?????

Elizabeth May 30, 2010 at 8:25 pm

Does anyone know if distribution of the ajc reach litter is against any local ordinances in Henry County?

michael June 6, 2010 at 9:07 pm

I can’t believe they would resort to throwing ads out the window of a car with 24 inch wheels and boom music playing at full volume. Cancel my subscription to AJC and all it’s sponsors, stop littering my neighborhood. What idiots.

Alex Mitchell June 28, 2010 at 3:11 pm

Littering much like murder is against the law. AJC hires delivery people, Capone hired henchmen. AJC hired litterers. A different crim, but still a crime.

mike a July 1, 2010 at 9:26 am

Is anyone an attorney? It would seem we have enough support to file suit. Possibly a class action.

heather nygren July 1, 2010 at 10:02 am

I don’t want them mailed, I don’t want them AT ALL.

Kathi July 7, 2010 at 10:31 am

The law says any law enforcement agency can appoint someone to enforce this law. I’d volunteer to enforce it in Gwinnett. Has anyone asked local PD about this?

michael f July 8, 2010 at 7:33 am

Look into the mirror… none of you ever speed driving? I would bet not. I agree with everyone’s dislike for the AJC Reach flyers and would appreciate they be stopped, but some of the analogies on this posting are a little ridiculous…

Kaiwa Kong July 8, 2010 at 3:17 pm

I see many people are frustrated and angry with the fact that AJC has continued to litter our yards and has done nothing to discontinue this problem. I have an easy solution, but will need everyone who is against this to join in. My solution is to collect all unwanted litter by AJC for the next couple of weeks and schedule a date and time where we all can meet to dump all unwanted litter back at AJC facilities. In my opinion, AJC will not react until we the people react!!!!

Cynthia July 13, 2010 at 10:49 pm

We have called and called and even threaten legal action; also filled a complaint with Walton CO zoning officials. Still they trash our drive, yard and roadside. Can’t you folks there at AJC read? WE DO NOT WANT THIS LITTER! YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!

Ron M July 14, 2010 at 12:50 pm

We had the same problem in Dallas with this distribution company last year. The Dallas Morning News killed the contract within 6 months!!

Judy McLaren July 15, 2010 at 7:24 pm

litteritcostsyou.com spells out exactly how this is against Georgia law and what the consequences are. The challenge we are faced with is enforcement.

Ron M July 18, 2010 at 7:08 pm

Internal discussions are picking up a lot of momentum to bring the distribution in-house with the daily delivery carriers, mised with conversions of some select areas back to mail. By all accounts, they have abandoned the idea of outsourcing any further to the national company handling it currently.

Laurie Stone August 4, 2010 at 3:32 pm

Pro Carpet is STILL in the Reach litter despite promising to pull out.

Laurie Stone August 4, 2010 at 3:40 pm

You need to add Kohls to the list of advertsiers who are littering.

KW August 17, 2010 at 12:35 pm

Key contact at the 404-526-9473 number is Ms. Casey Acabal.

Chris Kaiser August 23, 2010 at 11:09 pm

I’m the founder of http://blog.mapawatt.com and I also suffer from Reach litter. I’m going to write a blog about this that should be up by Thursday, 8/26/10. I’m sick of throwing the paper in recycling (without looking at it) and throwing the plastic in the trash.

New to Atlanta September 13, 2010 at 8:50 pm

You all need to get a job and think about what’s really important in life. The rest of the country gets newspapers and circulars delivered to their driveway. Get a life. Save a life, volunteer for something meaningful and stop filling your tiem with such hate and stupidity. You all make me want to go back north. Shame on you.. YOu probably wont even post this.

No more REACH September 14, 2010 at 10:12 am

“New To Atlanta” is wrong. This is meaningful and important. Is it “hate” and “stupidity” to hold the REACH accountable? To get them to obey the law? To stop ruining our neighborhoods? I’m here to tell you that it CAN work. I got our city code enforcement officers to kick the REACH out of our neighborhood. Learn the laws, call the right people, and they’ll be gone.

Nancy Cope September 26, 2010 at 10:32 pm

Can anyone tell me what sub company of ajc is in charge of these deliveries?

James Ryan November 17, 2010 at 5:43 pm

Success! After many emails and phone calls, AJC reach is no longer deilvered to my neighborhood! Keep up the good fight everybody! And [to the person commenting above with the username of] “New To Atlanta”- I have a job. I also have a neighborhood with less litter than before. It’s not world peace, but it’s nice. :-)

Stop-AJC-Reach November 17, 2010 at 6:17 pm

Ryan, thanks for the post, and congrats on the victory! Which neighborhood have they stopped delivering in? Did the AJC confirm that they will stop across the entire neighborhood? (Or did they just stop for the neighborhood, without any confirmation? I ask because they have stopped without confirmation in some neighborhoods, only to resume later.)

boycott Advertisers February 13, 2011 at 7:01 pm

Tell them we will petition to boycott their advertisers if REACH doesn’t use better delivery systems such as mailing the circulars rather than of throwing them on the ground.
Here’s how to reach them

Todd Ingle March 27, 2011 at 11:42 am

I have called AJC numerous times to stop the distribution of this stuff in our neighborhood with no luck. How can we stop this?

Richard Serroels March 28, 2011 at 10:38 am

Is it possible to get a ‘cease and desist’ order filed against the AJC and its’ representatives from delivering these unwanted advertisements?

Might it be possible to get a ‘no contact’ order and prevent AJC and its’ representatives from even entering the subject property?

Rosalie Reece May 17, 2011 at 9:54 pm

I have just sent AJC Reach an e-mail from the Stillwater HOA to discontinue their drops. Let’s see if I get anywhere.

Dave May 25, 2011 at 3:02 am

I have just made my 12th, yes 12th request to stop delivery. Wish me luck.

James J fox May 30, 2011 at 1:42 pm

Many calls to AJC, papers still come. I have the lowest yard in the neighborhood and all the flyers at this end of the road end up in my yard or the city sewer system. All the roads are littered with little blue bags that nobody picks up. I clean up my area however, no one else does and to my thinking this is a major litter problem that down the road we will all be paying in taxes to unclog the sewer system, streams, lakes and ditches along the road.
I have asked them to at least put a rock in the bag so they don’t blow all over the place to no avail. This has me so upset. I am going to call the county and advertisers to see what i can do to stop this. No HOA over here so i am on my own.

James J fox May 30, 2011 at 3:50 pm

I have an idea. these things are as light as a letter. Everybody pick a date, tape these things up, put a stamp on them and send them back. It,s worth a stamp to me. brobally three. Let,s clog up their mailroom and hopefully their own front yard and sewer system. I mean everybody sends millions of these things back to them. Dirt, crud and all.

Rosalie Reece June 7, 2011 at 12:12 pm

They requested the addresses of everyone in the development. I sent them. For one week, we had no trash. Then back it came. I complained, again and received the advtg in my mail box. Okay, I can’t stop them from mailing it, but, today I also found their crap thrown in my driveway. I intend to complain, again, but I wonder what it’s really going to take to get them to stop?

Oakland Downs HOA July 5, 2011 at 11:08 am

I just found your website today for the first time. What great work. FYI, our HOA has been subject to littering by AJC Reach for years. Our management company has contacted them repeatedly to stop the littering, as well as individual residents, to no avail. They are trespassing on private property in our case, as well as littering. On 7.4.11, I was home, and caught the driver in the act, and confronted them. Nothing else seems to work… I was greeted with a hail of expletives for the ages, which quite possibly set a new world record for F-bombs-per-second. What was painfully obvious was that any request to the distributor of the litter never reaches the delivery thug. And I assure you she could care less. She threatened to call the police on ME (for advising her she’s trespassing and littering on private property), which I encouraged her to do after quickly realizing no amount of reasoned conversation could have any effect. Well, upon speaking to her “boss,” she very quickly changed her tune, and tore out of the neighborhood, with her delivery/littering incomplete. Hopefully that will end our saga with the littering, but it will not end the situation with the person that told me off my own property. I’ll be addressing that with the AJC’s human resourced department, and eventually through the subcontractor that employs this thug.

Bill Harris July 29, 2011 at 1:26 am

After a year of no trash from them on 7/28/11 the AJC papered the Summer Stream subdivision in N. Cobb County. See: http://www.atlantajournal-constitution.blogspot.com/

Jay Branch August 19, 2011 at 6:31 am

I have been trying to get off of StopAJCReach.org’s mailing list for weeks with no response. What do I have to do to get rid of these unsolicited emails? They are clogging up my inbox.

OMG; on my 5th attempt to stop delivery of this paper. They always tell me that an order to stop has been entered. What a joke.

Bill January 12, 2012 at 9:59 pm

I heard ACI was kicked out of the San Francisco market for horrible service.

Bass Fisherman September 14, 2012 at 4:53 pm

I am constantly finding the bags and sometimes whole papers in around lake lanier and the streams that feed it..This must STOP…

Scott November 15, 2012 at 3:38 pm

Six months after finally getting Reach stopped, now I see an “Evening Edge” in my driveway. Here we go again.
